With COVID-19 cases still at a high and more COVID patients opting to recover at home due to crowded hospital facilities, Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. (Sun Life Grepa) hosted a webinar that focused on home care and home management steps for families with members who may be asymptomatic or have mild symptoms of the virus.
In the webinar entitled: “When COVID-19 Hits Home”, Doctor Anelyn Reyes, a Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist and Chairman of Infection Prevention or Control of multiple hospitals, discussed valuable tips in providing care for a COVID-19 patient at home.
According to Dr. Reyes, home isolation measures to be observed include: wearing of face masks and face shields inside the house, staying in a well-ventilated single room with its own bathroom, having one’s own trash bag/bin in the room, avoiding aerosol generating procedures like home nebulization (unless deemed necessary), and assigning a household member as the sole primary caretaker.
She also advised that the caretaker must monitor the temperature of the patient twice a day, and check the blood oxygen levels using a pulse oximeter.
“It is important to still follow the basic safety protocols like washing your hands often and disinfecting highly touched objects. These protocols are proven to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. It is also best to avail of the COVID-19 vaccination because it is one of the ways to stop the pandemic,” she said.
For its part, Sun Life Grepa emphasized that life insurance policies can help cushion the financial impact of the pandemic. All of its life insurance products provide guaranteed benefits to support beneficiaries in the untimely passing of a policyholder due to any cause, including those that resulted from COVID-19. Likewise, its hospitalization plans can help manage expenses of hospital confinement, whether COVID-related or not.
“Sun Life Grepa is always looking for ways to be part of the solution to our health challenges,” says Richard S. Lim, President of Sun Life Grepa. “As we work with the rest of the country in taking steps to end the pandemic, we are here for people who also want to take steps to protect themselves and their loved ones from life’s uncertain moments in the future.”
This webinar was part of a virtual forum series held by Sun Life Grepa Healthcare, Sun Life Grepa’s group insurance channel. For inquiries, clients and interested parties may email groupsales@sunlifegrepa.com.
