As Filipino families head into the new year and reassess their financial priorities, Malayan Insurance is putting a renewed spotlight on Vital Cover, its thoughtfully designed critical illness plan first introduced quietly last September.

Vital Cover was developed with one purpose: to address the illnesses that create the greatest long-term financial strain on Filipino households. While many Critical Illness plans highlight the familiar “big three” — cancer, heart attack, and stroke — Vital Cover broadens protection to include Chronic Kidney Disease, Chronic Liver Disease, and Chronic Diabetes Mellitus. These conditions are among the most costly and life-altering health challenges Filipinos face, often requiring extended treatment, recurring hospital visits, and long-term care.

“Filipino families are not only battling life-threatening diseases; many are dealing with chronic illnesses that quietly drain their resources year after year,” said Anthony M. Guanzon, Chief Marketing Officer of Malayan Insurance. “Vital Cover Critical Illness was created to reflect that reality — to provide support that is broader, more compassionate, and more closely aligned with the everyday challenges families experience.”

At the heart of Vital Cover Critical Illness (CI) is a five-layer protection approach designed to support Filipinos throughout the full health journey:

  • Critical Illness Benefit for cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney failure, chronic liver disease, and chronic diabetes mellitus
  • Daily Hospital Allowance for up to 30 days of confinement
  • Lump Sum Benefit for death due to a covered critical Illness or accidental death
  • Accidental Protection Package, including accidental death, disablement or dismemberment.
  • Medical reimbursement due to accidental injuries.

Vital Cover CI was also created with accessibility in mind. Plans start at as low as ₱795 per year, making meaningful protection attainable for more Filipino families. The coverage is open to individuals aged 18 to 60 (renewable to 65) and carries no occupational restrictions—helping ensure that more Filipinos, whatever their circumstance, can be protected.

“December is always a moment of reflection — a time when families take stock of their year, their challenges, and their hopes for what’s ahead,” added Guanzon. “As the cost of living and healthcare continue to rise, we want Vital Cover CI to offer peace of mind. Our goal is simple: to stand with Filipinos through diagnosis, hospitalization, recovery, and even life’s unexpected turns.”

Although launched quietly earlier this year, Malayan is bringing Vital Cover CI forward now — when conversations around health, preparedness, and long-term financial security are more urgent than ever.

Protection isn’t just a policy,” the CMO shared. “It’s a commitment. And we hope Vital Cover becomes part of every Filipino family’s commitment to a safer, stronger, more secure 2026.”

Vital Cover is available through Malayan Insurance’s accredited agents and partners nationwide.
