In celebration of Universal Human Rights Day this December 10, Gateway Gallery invites the public to a meaningful and relevant talk that highlights the country’s marginalized brothers and sisters– the indigenous peoples. The KulturaSerye talk, which airs on December 11, Saturday, at 2 pm, is entitled INDIGENIUS: The Wisdom of Philippine Indigenous Peoples.

Two speakers, Dr. Jimmy Fong and Klarise Fortaleza, will be providing updated information and insights on the local knowledge and resilience of our country’s IPs. Dr. Jimmy Fong, who will deliver the talk Katutubong Kaalaman at Galing, Pambansang Pamana, will discuss the local knowledge or wisdom of the local IPs and how they apply it in their daily life and customs. He will also talk about  the research and documentation on the country’s IPs. Mr. Fong is the Dean of the College of Arts and Communication at the University of the Philippines Baguio. He teaches Journalism, Ibaloy language, and Indigenous Studies. He is also a Commissioner, representing the languages of the northern Philippine cultural communities, at the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino

Klarise Fortaleza of the Commission on Human Rights will discuss in her talk Resilience and Remedial Mechanisms, the resilience of the IPs, their rights, current challenges, and the remedial mechanisms currently in place. She will also delve into the programs and actions that the Commission on Human Rights has done for our IPs. She is the current Officer-in-Charge of the Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights Center under the Centers Management Office of the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines.
