PetroWind Energy Inc. (PWEI), the developer and operator of the 50 MW Nabas Wind Power Project in Aklan and a unit of Yuchengco-led PetroGreen Energy Corporation (PGEC), has been once again recognized by the local government of Malay, Aklan as one of the municipality’s top corporate taxpayers for 2024. The recognition was conferred during the 76th Founding Anniversary of Malay on June 14, 2025. PWEI was ranked Top 5 in Real Property Tax and Top 9 in Business Tax, the only energy company among the Top 10 Taxpayers dominated by hotel and resort operators, underscoring PWEI’s dual impact on both power development and economic growth in the region.

“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Municipality of Malay,” said PWEI Project Manager Jayson A. Abaniel. “This award reflects our dedication not only to sustainable energy production, but also to being a reliable partner in the economic growth of our host communities. As a member of the Yuchengco Group of Companies, paying taxes promptly and correctly to our host communities is our contribution to nation-building at the local level.”

Aside from taxes and fiscal benefits to host local governments and communities, PWEI has consistently prioritized community development and environmental stewardship. Through its flagship CSR program, We Power H.E.L.P. (Health, Education, and Livelihood Program), the company supports local communities through medical missions, nutrition projects, and improvement of public education through scholarships and Adopt-a-School projects. Last year, PWEI started direct financial aid to 115 students of Napaan Elementary School in Malay to promote continued school attendance of students from poor families, which is also aligned with DepEd’s goals.

Beyond its social impact, PWEI has also earned recognition for its environmental protection initiatives such as its ridge-to-river rehabilitation initiative promoting bioengineering measures and reforestation to restore and protect natural landscapes. In 2024, it also started implementation of PGEC’s revitalized and biodiversity-centered environment initiative We Power C.A.R.E. The program focuses on the conservation of threatened species, environmental awareness campaign, restoration of degraded ecosystems, and ecotourism promotion especially at the local level.
